CLAT Exam Information
What is CLAT?
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by 22 National Law Universities in India. The test is organized by the Consortium of National Law Universities headed by NLSIU. The CLAT is conducted on a rotational basis by National Law Universities.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) are eligible to apply for the UG program. For the PG program, candidates must have an LLB degree or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks (45% for SC/ST candidates).
Exam Pattern
The CLAT UG exam consists of 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) from five sections: English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. The PG exam consists of 120 MCQs from Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, and other law subjects. Each question carries one mark, and there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.
Important Dates
The CLAT exam is usually conducted in the month of May every year. The application process starts in January and ends in March. The exact dates for the current year can be found on the official CLAT website.
